Landscape Chinese Scroll Painting – Silk Wall Art – Deer House

This Chinese landscape scroll painting belongs to the long tradition of Chinese silk wall art, opening with waterfall, mountain, red sun, birds, deer, house, and plum blossom. Anyone new to shanshui silk wall art could start here — the subject explains itself. The vertical rhythm of the scroll draws the gaze upward through waterfall, mountain, and red sun.

In Chinese art, plum blossom, the flower that stands for perseverance; a waterfall dropping in a pale thread. The subject takes its form from classical brushwork; its feeling comes from red tones. The silk ground was sized and prepared before a single stroke was laid. The waterfall, mountain, red sun, birds, deer, house, and plum blossom are rendered with classical brushwork, while red tones tie the whole scene together.

A study wall hung with this feels closer to the old literati ideal. It is personal without being presumptuous — a rare combination in gifts.
