Landscape Chinese Scroll Painting – Silk Wall Art – Palace Garden Willow

This silk scroll is a fine example of the Chinese landscape scroll painting: palace garden, pavilion, figures, mountain, willow, an arched bridge, and a rock, brought to life with touches of gold leaf brightness. Anyone new to traditional shanshui painting could start here — the subject explains itself. The scene breathes; nothing is crowded, and the silk itself becomes part of the picture.

Look longer and the meaning opens up — a waterside pavilion made for lingering, and layered mountains receding into the haze. The subject takes its form from touches of gold leaf brightness; its feeling comes from quiet, harmonious hues. Hanging scrolls were made to be lived with and re-hung with the seasons. The touches of gold leaf brightness keeps palace garden crisp while letting the quiet, harmonious hues wash softly behind it.

The living room's quietest wall is usually the right one. For the newly engaged, it is a wish for a beautiful shared home.
